<p dir="ltr">A Penticton woman caught going double the 100 km/h speed limit on Hwy 1 told police officers she just wanted to test the engine of her new 2018 Ford Mustang.</p>

<p dir="ltr">&ldquo;We&rsquo;ve heard this excuse before, and it does not hold up,&rdquo; said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin from the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP).</p>

<p dir="ltr">The traffic stop on Hwy 1 between Chilliwack and Hope happened around 4:30 pm on Feb. 4. Police say the eastbound Mustang was clocked at 200 km/h in the 100 km/h zone.</p>

<p dir="ltr">The 39-year-old with a Class 7 Novice driver&rsquo;s licence received the following:</p>

<ul dir="ltr">
	<li role="presentation">A ticket for excessive speeding ($483 fine)</li>
	<li role="presentation">A ticket for failing to display an &lsquo;N&rsquo; ($109 fine)</li>
	<li role="presentation">The cost of a tow truck and seven-day impound</li>
	<li role="presentation">At least three years of high-risk driver premiums and escalating insurance</li>
</ul>

<p dir="ltr">The BCHP estimates the total costs for the woman, who left the scene with her passenger in a taxi, will be around $2,500.</p>

<p dir="ltr">&ldquo;Speed limits are necessary because we all share the road,&rdquo; added McLaughlin. &ldquo;Doing double the limit is a serious danger to everyone around you and must come with consequences.&rdquo;</p>
