A suspect has been arrested and charged following a homicide at a trailer park in Port Alberni on Friday night.
Police and paramedics responded to the 911 call around 9 pm and arrived on scene to find three men, including a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
“First responders attempted life-saving measures; however, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” explained an RCMP release.
Port Alberni resident Herbert Crowley, 81, was arrested and has since been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder. He remains in custody at this time.
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation, which has determined that the parties knew each other and it was an isolated incident.
“Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said VIIMCU Sgt. Jason Kerr. “Investigators have worked tirelessly to advance this investigation and bring charges forward.”
As the matter is now before the courts, no further information, including the victim’s identity, will be released by the RCMP.
