The BC SPCA is praising an Abbotsford man who saved several young kittens from potential death at the waste management facility he works at.
“He saved the kittens from the most horrible fate,” said BC SPCA Abbotsford manager Sarah Ringer-Vinnard. “We are incredibly grateful he found them.”
The worker heard faint cries coming from the facility’s compactor on Feb. 13 and discovered two tiny kittens buried beneath a pile of cardboard.

He immediately brought the kittens to BC SPCA Abbotsford, then returned to work only to find a third kitten that he delivered to the BC SPCA as well.
Three days later, the worker made another shocking discovery in the form of two more kittens at the waste management facility.
It was Family Day, meaning BC SPCA Abbotsford was closed for the statutory holiday, so he took the tiny animals home to keep them safe overnight before dropping them off on Tuesday.

The kittens were so young when they arrived at BC SPCA Abbotsford that they needed to be bottle fed with kitten milk replacer by a pair of dedicated volunteers.
“All the kittens had significant discharge in their eyes as a result of upper respiratory infections,” Ringer-Vinnard explained. “They have all received antibiotics and have fully recovered.”
According to Ringer-Vennard, the super snuggly felines “are well socialized and just love people,” and have been busy exploring their foster homes.

They’ll be available for adoption in around six weeks, as they are currently being monitored for weight and will need to grow to over a kilogram in size before finding their forever homes.
“Once they reach that weight, they will be featured on the BC SPCA’s adoption page,” noted Ringer-Vinnard.
