Two years of probation were ordered for a 29-year-old man who pleaded guilty March 4 to assault and breaching court orders.
In Prince George Provincial Court, Judge Charles Hutchinson heard that Prince George RCMP officers were called to a McDonald’s restaurant at 3:20 a.m. on July 3, 2025 after Brandon Michael Pierre arrived and demanded a woman leave with him or he would bear spray the restaurant.
He led the woman out of the restaurant and left in his vehicle.
Police searched for the woman to ensure she was safe, and found her the same day at the Salvation Army. She provided a statement, corroborating the report from the witness. She also said Pierre threatened to punch her in the head.
She said she remained with him until he grabbed her purse and demanded she leave the Salvation Army with him. She stayed and called police.
Crown prosecutor Astitwa Thapa said that Pierre was already put on probation for a year on April 10, 2025 for breach of undertaking by Judge Judith Doulis and ordered to have no contact with the woman. Hence the charges for failing to comply with a release order.
Pierre’s defence lawyer David Jenkins Jr. said his Indigenous client was previously employed as a heavy equipment operator in the logging industry for eight years, but has been unemployed over the past year. He has struggled with drug addiction, but has since attended residential treatment.
The guilty plea and remorse were mitigating factors.
Hutchinson agreed with the joint sentencing proposal and levied a $100 victim surcharge , payable by March 3, 2027.
The Crown stayed nine other charges against Pierre, including unlawful confinement and theft under $5,000.
