Canucks sign Elias Pettersson to 8-year extension

Fans of the Vancouver Canucks woke up to some exciting news this morning as forward Elias Pettersson and the team agreed on an eight-year contract extension.

“Elias is one of the top players in the National Hockey League and is a key member of our leadership group,” said General Manager Patrik Allvin.

“We know his best days are ahead of him and with his high-end skill and desire to be the best, we look forward to seeing Elias succeed and grow.”

The deal runs at an annual average of 11.6 million US and will see the Swedish forward stay in Vancouver for some of his best years to come as a player.

“This is a very exciting day for me and my family,” said Elias Pettersson.

“I am very happy to be continuing my career as a member of the Vancouver Canucks. I love this city and playing in front of the fans. We have an exciting group and believe we can do good things in the future.”

The 25-year-old has appeared in 62 games this season, accumulating 29 goals and 75 points while sporting a +12 plus/minus rating.

Last season, Pettersson led the team with a career-high 102 points and tied the team lead for goals (39).

Pettersson's achievements include four all-star nods, rookie of the year in 2018-19 and the team record for most points in a season by a rookie (66).

The Canucks will look to get back to their winning ways when they take on the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
