The deal runs at an annual average of 11.6 million US and will see the Swedish forward stay in Vancouver for some of his best years to come as a player.
“This is a very exciting day for me and my family,” said Elias Pettersson.
“I am very happy to be continuing my career as a member of the Vancouver Canucks. I love this city and playing in front of the fans. We have an exciting group and believe we can do good things in the future.”
The 25-year-old has appeared in 62 games this season, accumulating 29 goals and 75 points while sporting a +12 plus/minus rating.
Last season, Pettersson led the team with a career-high 102 points and tied the team lead for goals (39).
Pettersson's achievements include four all-star nods, rookie of the year in 2018-19 and the team record for most points in a season by a rookie (66).
The Canucks will look to get back to their winning ways when they take on the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
